The Quarry

2016 - ongoing

Left behind from Singapore’s land reclamation development efforts from the 1960’s to the 1980’s, the quarry has since become an autonomous site with a life of its own, lending itself to the various peculiar activities and artefacts that was left behind, as well as the rumours and stories shared by those who escaped there to find solace over the years. These narratives stimulated my sensory experience of the site, blurring my perception of reality every time I enter this space.

The Quarry has since become a reflection of my personal journey, research, along with the chance encounters and meetings with other visitors to this mysterious site in main land Singapore. Spanning various mediums and forms such as photographs, video, to map drawings, it is a contemplation on how narratives are formed within an abandoned autonomous space located between fact and fiction.
